- Duration: whole day
- Distance: 36 km (Argentiera) 58 km (Stintino)
Driving along the SP 42, north of Alghero, two characteristic coastal villages are surrounded by some of the most beautiful beaches of North Sardinia. L’Argentiera and Stintino, respectively 39 and 45 kilometers from Alghero, are two of the most recommended villages if you have the opportunity to enjoy a medium vacation on the island.
L’Argentiera is a mining center for the extraction of iron, zinc and lead. As evidence of this pre-existence, it is possible to visit the historical Geominerary Park. The most wonderful beaches are Cala dell’Argentiera, Porto Palmas and the Frana beach.
Stintino, on the other hand, is a fishing village which since the ’70s has made tourism its main source of income, thanks to the famous La Pelosa Beach. Crowded in the summer, now finally with a limited entry to 1500 people per day, is recognized as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. In the surroundings we recommend you to visit also Le Saline Beach and all the coast up to Porto Torres, with the beaches of Pazzona and Fiume Santo. If you can stay a little longer, you should visit the National Park of Asinara Island, which for decades served as a maximum security prison and today is a National Park. It keeps intact the peculiarities of a virgin and not anthropized island, and diving is highly recommended in order to admire the extraordinary habitat of the seabed. Also peculiar are the small white donkeys that populate this fantastic island.
